My name is Dawna Davis and I am thrilled to share my passion in designing and hand crafting unique wire and gem jewelry creations.
I spent my first 31 years in Boston, Massachusetts immersed in family, education, and career exploration, growing, experimenting, but missing something. A change was necessary. I thrust my moistened finger in the air, checked for the wind direction, and decided to take a different path.
I chose to go West and found myself in Hermosa Beach, California where there is warm, year long sun for nurturance, a peaceful ocean which soothes my Pisces soul, newness because I like excitement and adventure. and most important a welcoming setting for creativity and the nurturing of passion(s).
When I was a child, I did not think that I was creative because I couldn’t draw, paint, or mold Play Doh into any recognizable shape. Thank goodness I learned that creativity comes in many forms: for me, in the 60’s, it was knitting and crocheting; the 70’s, macramé and needlepoint; since then photography and paper making, and now, I think I have found my lasting and true creative outlet and passion: designing and hand crafting unique jewelry creations.
I have worked in the diverse fields of social work, computer training, and as management consultant to corporate personnel. I was a lecturer and trainer in total quality management (TQM) and most recently had been a special education teacher. I also have had the luxury of travel. I have been cross country by car many times, to Europe (ahhhhh Italy), Central America, and had lived in Australia for four years. Admittedly, I have the wanderlust. All of these experiences have helped me understand how lucky I am to be where I am, to have been where I have been, and to see more clearly where I want to be... here in California, designing and crafting jewelry and bringing together single gems and crystals within seemingly diverse and random wire paths, forming gleaming and expressive whole pieces of jewelry. Sounds like my life and just feels ‘right”.
Each of my jewelry pieces is like my child. It has always been a joy to “give birth” and see a finished piece for the first time, my vision becoming reality. At first it was hard to sell my jewelry and I only made bracelets or cuffs or earrings pieces I could wear myself. But you have to eat! So, now I (secretly) kiss them goodbye and hope their new owner will love them as much as I do. As I sit in the workroom and look out at the Pacific, I realize how lucky I am and infuse my pieces with the joy I feel. I take great care to choose the finest materials. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted, using only high quality semi-precious gemstones, Swarovski crystals, sterling and 14K gold filled metals.
